Leanfinit vs React-first AI builders: why most tools generate React

Why Lovable, v0, Bolt.new and Replit default to React, what that default costs you, and why Leanfinit builds with Flutter instead – free in beta.

Disclosure: OwnlyReal and Leanfinit share founders.

Lovable, v0, Bolt.new and Replit all reach for React or React Native first, and the reasons are mostly about the tools, not about you. Leanfinit takes a different route and builds with Flutter. For people who just need an app, that choice comes with a bonus: Leanfinit is completely free during the beta.

TL;DR

React dominates AI app builders because, in our view, it is the web's default – and the companies behind several builders back it. That default ties you to a backend, a host and a credit meter. Leanfinit builds with Flutter, needs no servers, and is free during the beta.

02Reason 1: React is the web's default, and the builders' owners back it

React has a long head start. It dates to 2013 (React blog archive), and its main repository showed 250.9k GitHub stars as of October 2026, against 178.8k for Flutter (React repo, Flutter repo). In our view, a stack that common is the safe default for any AI tool writing code.

The money points the same way. The React Foundation, which has owned React and React Native since February 2026, lists eight Platinum founding members, including Vercel and Expo (react.dev). Vercel is v0's parent company, and Expo is what Replit, Bolt.new, a0.dev and Anything use for mobile (SaaStr on v0, Replit docs, Bolt.new docs, a0.dev docs, Anything docs).

03Reason 2: the preview lives in the same browser tab

A React web app previews where you chat. Lovable builds web applications only and says it "does not generate React Native projects" (Lovable FAQ), and v0 outputs Next.js web apps deployed on Vercel (v0 FAQ). When the stack is the browser's own, the builder can show your app next to the prompt box without any extra step.

Mobile needs that extra step. Replit and Bolt.new preview React Native apps in Expo Go, a separate app on your phone (Replit docs, Bolt.new docs). So the React default is really a web default, with mobile bolted on through Expo.

04Reason 3: one language from screen to server

React builders usually ship a server with your app. Google AI Studio's Build mode pairs a React frontend with a Node.js backend (Google AI Studio docs), and Lovable's new projects use TanStack Start with server rendering (Lovable FAQ). Writing both sides in JavaScript is convenient for the tool.

For you, it means a backend to keep alive. Lovable Cloud runs on Supabase's stack, and moving between Lovable Cloud and your own Supabase project is not supported (Lovable Cloud docs).

Key takeaway

The React default suits the builder – familiar code, an instant preview, one language everywhere. It also hands you a server, a host and a meter that keeps running.

05What the React default costs you, and where Leanfinit differs

You rarely get to choose. Lovable offers no choice of framework or database (Lovable FAQ). Getting a store app means a wrapper: Lovable points to a PWA or Capacitor outside its product, and Base44 prepares store files with Capacitor, PWABuilder or TWA (Base44 docs).

What users report

On Replit's community forum, a builder describes Agent 3 switching to React even after asking for vanilla JavaScript (source).

The meter matters too. As of October 2026, Lovable's free plan stops at 30 credits a month and v0's at 7 messages a day (Lovable plans, v0 pricing). Leanfinit has no paid plans, no credit card and no watermark during the beta.

06Why Leanfinit took the Flutter route

Flutter draws its own UI from one codebase. It "renders widgets directly using its own engine" instead of relying on platform widgets (Flutter FAQ), and it compiles to machine code for devices or to JavaScript or WebAssembly for the web (Flutter architecture). That is how a Flutter-built app can run in a browser today.

It is not a niche bet. Google ships NotebookLM and Google Pay with Flutter, and the showcase includes Dubai names such as Expo City Dubai, with Emaar on the Flutter homepage (Flutter showcase, flutter.dev). Leanfinit's own mobile app is in development and will generate offline apps that run on your device, with data staying on the phone.

07Leanfinit vs a React builder: one salon booking app

Same idea, very different path. Ask a React-first builder for a salon booking app and you get a web project with a backend you depend on, a credit balance to watch and, for a phone app, Expo or a wrapper. Ask Leanfinit and you describe the services, opening hours and booking slots, then press Publish.

If you have already tried ChatGPT and ended up with code you cannot run, Leanfinit's guide ChatGPT wrote me an app – where do I run it? explains the gap. Leanfinit closes it: no servers, databases or hosting to set up or pay for.

Leanfinit tip

Write the prompt the way you would explain the app to a new employee – who uses it, what they enter, what they look at. Leanfinit's guide on describing an app idea in plain words has more examples.

Verdict

AI builders generate React because it suits them. If you want the app rather than the stack, Leanfinit is the better choice: Flutter-built, nothing to host, and completely free during the beta.

FAQ

Why do most AI app builders use React?

React has the longer history and the bigger GitHub following, previews instantly in the browser and lets one language run the screen and the server. Two React Foundation founding members, Vercel and Expo, sit directly behind several builders.

Can I ask Lovable or v0 for Flutter instead?

No. Lovable has no choice of framework, and v0 uses Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui.

Does Leanfinit generate React?

No. Leanfinit builds its apps with Flutter, and code export is available.

Is Leanfinit really free?

Yes, during the beta: no paid plans, no credit card and no watermark.
