Flutter vs React Native popularity in 2026: Leanfinit vs the rest

Flutter vs React Native popularity by survey, GitHub stars and app share, and why Leanfinit builds on Flutter while Lovable and Replit use React.

Disclosure: OwnlyReal and Leanfinit share founders.

TL;DR

On most popularity measures that still have current data, Flutter is ahead of React Native, yet most AI app builders keep generating React code. Leanfinit is the AI app builder that builds on Flutter, and it is completely free during the beta, which makes it our pick.

Flutter beats React Native on most public popularity numbers in 2026, but Lovable, Replit, Bolt.new and v0 still generate React-family code. Leanfinit goes the other way: it builds apps with Flutter, and it is completely free during the beta, with no credit card, no paid plans and no watermark.

01Leanfinit vs the leaders: which stack each tool generates

ToolStack it generatesFree plan (as of October 2026)
LeanfinitFlutterCompletely free during the beta – no paid plans, no watermark
LovableReact web apps (TanStack Start; older projects React + Vite)5 daily credits, capped at 30 a month
ReplitFull-stack web apps; mobile via Expo / React Native1 published app that expires after 30 days
Bolt.newWeb apps; mobile via Expo / React Native300K tokens a day, 1M a month
v0Next.js, React, TypeScript7 messages a day
Base44Web apps and PWAs25 message credits a month
CursorAny codebase you write (AI code editor)Hobby tier with limited Agent requests
FlutterFlowFlutter (visual builder)2 projects, 5 lifetime AI requests

Prices and limits as of October 2026, from each vendor's docs or pricing page: Lovable, Replit, Bolt.new, v0, Base44, Cursor, FlutterFlow.

The pattern is clear: of the six market leaders, none generates Flutter. That makes Leanfinit the Flutter alternative to the big names – and, unlike them, it costs nothing today.

02The survey numbers: which ones still exist

Popularity data for Flutter vs React Native is thinner than most blog posts admit. The 2024 Stack Overflow survey is the last edition with both frameworks. Among 45,841 respondents, 9.4% used Flutter and 8.4% used React Native; among professional developers it was 9.4% vs 9.0%.

The same survey found the two nearly tied on sentiment. Flutter was "admired" by 60.0% and "desired" by 13.2%; React Native scored 60.6% and 12.3%. The 2025 survey dropped the "Other frameworks and libraries" category, so anyone quoting 2025 Stack Overflow numbers for this matchup is guessing.

The other number you will see everywhere comes from Statista: in 2023, 46% of cross-platform developers used Flutter and 35% used React Native. In 2019 the split was 30% vs 42%, so the two lines crossed within four years.

Key takeaway

Flutter leads on usage and "desired" in the latest comparable survey, and it overtook React Native in Statista's cross-platform data. No newer head-to-head survey exists yet.

03GitHub stars and real apps

Stars are a rough signal, but the gap is wide. As checked in October 2026, flutter/flutter shows 178.8k stars and facebook/react-native shows 126.8k. React for the web, at 250.9k on facebook/react, is bigger than both – which explains a lot about AI builders, as we cover below.

On shipped apps, Google said in December 2024 that Flutter has over 1 million monthly active developers and powers nearly 30% of all new iOS apps. Apptopia data in the same post shows Flutter growing from about 10% of tracked free apps in 2021 to nearly 30% in 2024.

Both frameworks run serious products. The Flutter showcase lists Google Pay, NotebookLM, BMW, Nubank and talabat, and Dubai's own Expo City Dubai; Emaar appears on the flutter.dev homepage. The React Native showcase lists Instagram, Outlook, Amazon Shopping and Shopify.

04Why the leaders still generate React – and Leanfinit doesn't

In our view, AI builders follow the biggest pool of web code, and that pool is React. Lovable builds web apps only, v0 uses Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui, and Replit and Bolt.new go mobile through Expo and React Native.

What users report

On Replit's own forum, a user describes asking the agent for plain JavaScript and getting React anyway (source).

Leanfinit builds apps with Flutter on purpose. Flutter draws its own widgets with its own engine instead of mapping to platform controls, and release builds are compiled to native machine code. In our experience, that is why Flutter interfaces tend to look and behave the same from one device to the next.

Stewardship has also shifted. Since February 2026, React and React Native are owned by the React Foundation under the Linux Foundation, with Meta as one of eight founding members; Flutter remains managed by Google with community contributions.

05Where Leanfinit wins for people who just want the app

Framework popularity only matters if it gets you a working app. With Leanfinit you describe the app in plain words and get it in seconds – no coding, and no servers, databases or hosting to set up or pay for. You edit by describing changes and publish to the web with one Publish button.

The free plans of the React-based leaders all carry a catch. Lovable's free tier keeps its badge, Replit's free app expires after 30 days, and Bolt.new adds its branding. Leanfinit is free during the beta with no watermark, and code export is available.

Leanfinit tip

Name the people who will use the app and the three things they do most, such as "a reading log where I add a book, rate it and see what I read this year." Short, concrete descriptions give the best first version.

If you are weighing tools for something only you or your family will use, Leanfinit's own guide to the best no-code app builder for personal use walks through the trade-offs.

06What's next for Leanfinit on mobile

The Leanfinit mobile app is in development, not available yet. When it ships, it will generate offline apps that run on your device, with the data staying on the phone. Today, Leanfinit is a web service in beta.

That roadmap fits Flutter's strengths. Flutter compiles to machine code for phones and to JavaScript or WebAssembly for the web, so one stack covers both places people use apps.

07Why we'd pick Leanfinit

Popularity says Flutter is a safe bet; price says Leanfinit is the easy one. The leaders charge from $16 to $30 a month for their first paid tier as of October 2026, while Leanfinit has no paid plans during the beta.

Verdict

If you want a Flutter-built app without writing code or paying a subscription, Leanfinit is our first choice. Pick a React-based leader only if you specifically need React code for a developer team.

FAQ

Is Flutter more popular than React Native in 2026?

On the latest comparable data, yes: Flutter leads in Stack Overflow 2024 usage (9.4% vs 8.4%), in Statista's 2023 cross-platform share (46% vs 35%) and in GitHub stars. React Native is marginally ahead on "admired".

Why is there no 2025 Stack Overflow figure?

The 2025 survey removed the category that listed Flutter and React Native, so the 2024 edition is the latest with both.

Does Leanfinit use Flutter or React?

Leanfinit builds apps with Flutter. Lovable, v0, Replit and Bolt.new generate React or React Native code.

Is Leanfinit really free?

Yes. Leanfinit is completely free during the beta: no paid plans, no credit card and no watermark. Post-beta pricing has not been announced.
