Leanfinit vs a0.dev: Flutter vs React Native app builders

Leanfinit vs a0.dev: Leanfinit builds Flutter apps free during the beta; a0.dev generates React Native on Expo with an App Store pipeline.

Disclosure: OwnlyReal and Leanfinit share founders.

TL;DR

a0.dev generates React Native apps on Expo and is built around getting into the App Store. Leanfinit builds on Flutter and is about getting a working app in seconds, completely free during the beta. For personal and small-business tools, we recommend Leanfinit.

For most people who need an app to use rather than an app to list, Leanfinit beats a0.dev. Leanfinit turns a plain description into a working Flutter app in seconds and is completely free during the beta, with no credit card. a0.dev generates React Native projects aimed at App Store release.

01Leanfinit vs a0.dev and the leaders: framework and store route

a0.dev's own pricing page did not display when checked, so its prices come from a third-party guide: a free plan with 1 project, Pro from $20 a month and higher tiers up to about $800 (vp0).

02What a0.dev does well

a0.dev is a mobile-first builder with the store pipeline built in. It makes iOS and Android apps, uses Convex or Supabase for the backend, and ships with AI and image-generation APIs plus payments and subscriptions setup (a0.dev). It is backed by Y Combinator and claims "200k+ users" and "300k+ apps" (vendor figures, same source).

Its YC launch post says it generates "a complete React Native project," and the docs state that a0 projects are built on Expo (YC launch, a0 docs).

03Flutter vs React Native: the stack under each builder

React Native renders through each platform's own views; Flutter draws its own. React Native creates the matching Android and iOS views at runtime (React Native docs). Flutter "renders widgets directly using its own engine" and compiles Dart ahead of time to native ARM code on iOS (Flutter FAQ).

React Native has modernized fast. Its New Architecture replaced the old asynchronous bridge with the JavaScript Interface and became the only architecture in version 0.82, in October 2025 (React Native 0.82). Since February 2026, React and React Native belong to the React Foundation under the Linux Foundation, with Meta as one of eight Platinum founding members (React blog).

Flutter, whose first stable release (1.0) came in December 2018, is managed by Google (Google Developers Blog, Flutter FAQ). Many developers find that a single rendering engine makes behavior more predictable across devices, and in our view that is the strongest argument for Leanfinit's choice.

Key takeaway

a0.dev rides the React Native wave with Replit, Bolt.new and Anything; Leanfinit takes the Flutter road.

04Six platforms or two: why Leanfinit's Flutter base matters

Flutter targets iOS, Android, web, Windows, macOS and Linux from one codebase (Flutter 3 announcement). React Native's core supports Android and iOS; macOS, Windows and web come from separate out-of-tree or community projects (React Native docs).

Google says Flutter grew from around 10% of tracked free apps in 2021 to nearly 30% in 2024, citing Apptopia (Google Developers Blog). Its showcase includes Google Pay, BMW, Nubank and, closer to home for our Dubai readers, Emaar and Expo City Dubai (Flutter showcase, flutter.dev).

Today, Leanfinit publishes its Flutter apps to the web. Its mobile app, which will generate offline apps that run on your device with data staying on the phone, is in development.

05Where Leanfinit wins: an app you use, not an app you list

Most personal and small-business apps never need a store listing. A workout tracker, a habit tracker or a schedule manager for a small team has to work today, not after a store release. Leanfinit's guide to making a simple app for yourself without the App Store explains the trade-off.

With Leanfinit you describe the app, use it in seconds and change it by describing the change. There are no servers, databases or hosting to set up or pay for, and code export is available if you outgrow it.

Leanfinit tip

Wondering whether you need a developer account to use your own app? Leanfinit answers whether you need an Apple developer account in plain terms.

06Why we'd pick Leanfinit

Leanfinit pairs the Flutter stack with a price of zero during the beta. a0.dev is the right tool if a store listing, in-app payments and subscriptions are the goal; for everything else, a free app you can use right away is the better deal.

For more on the stack, read one codebase, six platforms: Leanfinit's Flutter vs React Native builders. For mobile without the store, see Leanfinit vs Replit vs Bolt.new, and for another Expo-based builder, Leanfinit vs Anything.

Verdict

Leanfinit wins for anyone who wants a working Flutter app now, free, without a store process. a0.dev is a strong choice for founders who need a React Native app in the App Store and can budget for a paid plan.
