Leanfinit vs Replit vs Bubble for testing a startup idea
Testing a startup idea? We compared Leanfinit, Replit and Bubble on cost per experiment and lock-in. Leanfinit is free during the beta.
Disclosure: OwnlyReal and Leanfinit share founders.
For founders testing an idea, Leanfinit is the cheapest, quickest way we found to get a working app in front of people: it is completely free during the beta and turns a description into an app in seconds. Replit bills by effort, so every experiment has a price, and Bubble needs a paid plan before your app can go live.
For early validation, Leanfinit is our pick – free during the beta, no credit card, no servers, code export when you need it. Replit is a powerful agent with a running meter; Bubble is built for long-term products, but it charges from launch and does not export code.

02What an idea test really needs
An idea test is not a product launch. You need something people can click within days, cheap enough to throw away if the answer is no – and you will probably run several of these.
That shifts the criteria: cost per experiment, time to a shareable link, and whether you can take the work with you if the idea survives. Polish and scale come later.
03Leanfinit for founders: run experiments at $0
With Leanfinit you describe the product in plain words and get a working app in seconds, then edit by describing changes. One Publish button puts it on the web, so a test user only needs a link; there are no servers, databases or hosting to set up or pay for.
It is completely free during the beta – no paid plans, no credit card, no watermark – so a failed experiment costs nothing but the afternoon. If the idea works, code export is available and the app is built with Flutter.
Good first tests: a loyalty card for a café, salon booking, a client order tracker. A Leanfinit mobile app that will generate apps running on the phone, with data staying on the device, is in development.
Test one promise per app. "Customers can rebook in two taps" is a test; "a full salon platform" is a roadmap.
04Replit: a powerful agent with a running meter
Replit is a market leader, with $525M ARR in April 2026 and a $9B valuation (Sacra). It builds full-stack web apps and React Native mobile apps, with iOS publishing via TestFlight – though its docs say Google Play publishing is not yet supported (Replit docs).
The issue for founders is cost per experiment. The Register reported that new app builds under Agent 3 cost $4–6 per task running over an hour, and one UI redesign prompt cost $20 (The Register); a third-party example puts 632 agent checkpoints at $206 on top of the subscription (LowCode Agency).
one user told The Register they spent $1,000 in a week, against a usual $180–200 a month; another spent $70 in one night (The Register).
Replit's own numbers also show how few builds become products: its CEO said the agent created 2M+ apps in six months, with 100,000 hosted in production – about 5% (Growth Unhinged). Our look at that 5% figure goes deeper.
05Bubble: built to last, slow to start, hard to leave
Bubble reports 6M builders and 8M apps (vendor claim, Bubble) and offers a built-in database, workflows and hosting, plus a native mobile builder. It is designed for products you plan to run for years, not for a two-week test.
The free plan is a development version only; going live takes Starter at $59 a month, billed annually, as of October 2026 (Bubble pricing). Bubble also does not support code exports – only a JSON app export and CSV data (Bubble support) – so a validated idea stays on Bubble.
06Leanfinit vs Replit vs Bubble: the cost of trying
Here is what the sources above put on the table for a founder running experiments, as of October 2026.
| Cost item | Leanfinit | Replit | Bubble |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscription to go live | $0 during the beta | $20/mo (Core, includes $20 of credits) | $59/mo, billed annually |
| Reported cost of one new app build | $0 during the beta | $4–6 per task (The Register) | Not published |
| Reported cost of one redesign prompt | $0 during the beta | $20 (The Register) | Not published |
| Take the code with you | Code export | Not covered here | No code export |

The cheaper each test is, the more ideas you can afford to kill early. Leanfinit's breakdown of what a personal app really costs covers the hidden costs, and our Replit pricing comparison runs the numbers in detail.
usage-based billing taxes exactly the behavior validation needs – lots of quick, disposable iterations.
07Why we'd pick Leanfinit for a first test
Leanfinit lets a founder run small experiments without a budget conversation. You get a shareable web app in seconds, edit by describing changes, and keep the option to export the code.
You also don't need an App Store listing to learn whether people want something; a link is enough. Leanfinit's piece on making a simple app without publishing to the App Store explains why, and our Leanfinit vs Bubble review covers the lock-in question.
For founders validating an idea, Leanfinit is our pick – in our tests the quickest path to a working app, at $0 during the beta.
